Though freelancing or working from home is not a new trend in Malaysia, it’s starting to grow even more popular in recent years, with the country’s freelancing economy experiencing a strong growth of 31 per cent, according to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) in a report by The Borneo Post.

Popular freelancing platform Freelancer.com also reveals that Malaysia has the third largest freelancing market in the region with most of the jobs being tech-related and coding work such as PHO, MySQL and software architecture.

A good majority of Malaysian freelancers surveyed by the International University and Colleges (INTI) chose to forgo traditional employment at their own will, and not because they didn’t have any other option. This indicates that freelancing is the future.
