Grocery Experiment - How Many Baking Ingredients Can You Get with RM50With SST on the scene, several items that are commonly used for baking are now imposed with a 5% sales tax, such as butter, almond, walnut, and even biscuit. Meanwhile, chocolates come with a 10% sales tax.

That said, most grocery items are exempted from SST, so this will not affect you as much, financially speaking. Rest assured that items like margarine, wheat, cereals, and dairy products – common baking ingredients that were previously taxed under GST – are now tax-free.

If you’d like to see a complete list of SST-taxed and tax-free consumer products and services, visit the Custom’s Department’s Sales and Services Tax page.

We’ve done a few grocery experiments for different categories. This time, we’re going to find out how many baking ingredients we can get with a budget of RM50.
