It’s no surprise that the archipelago of Langkawi, adorned with its pristine beaches, lush green paddy fields and beautiful jungle-clad hills, has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia.

In fact, the once quiet island district received almost 3 million tourists last year, according to the Langkawi Development Authority. Despite its soaring popularity, you can actually make the most of Langkawi without breaking the bank if you follow certain cost-saving tips.

The trip we’ve planned here is for four people with the total cost split equally between them. As one would expect, costs such as flight tickets and accommodation will vary depending on the dates of your vacation and timing of ticket bookings.

With that in mind, we decided to avoid any major holiday periods and chose our dates from 23 July to 25 July 2018, to keep the budget low.

We have here a detailed 3 Days 2 Nights budget itinerary for Langkawi which we will follow during our upcoming trip.

Day 1: Underwater World Langkawi, Cenang Beach and more

On the day of writing, we checked AirAsia for a morning departure from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi and found two promotional flights which were set at RM70. Other prices for morning flights on that day ranged between RM90 to RM110. Our chosen ticket on 23 July is scheduled to depart at 7.15 am and arrive at Langkawi at 8.20 am.

As for accommodation, we’re opting for a two-bedroom apartment with free breakfast that costs RM119 per night which we booked through Agoda. We’re also renting a Myvi car for RM147, which can be picked up at the Langkawi airport as soon as we arrive. The price is for two days plus an extra hour to accommodate the time of our return flight.

Since we will be arriving in the morning, we can use the rented car for some sightseeing and have lunch before we check into our accommodation. In the afternoon, we plan to visit the Underwater World Langkawi, which will cost RM36 per person.

There are over 500 species of animals and sea creatures in more than 100 specially designed tanks being exhibited here. Underwater World Langkawi has different sections dedicated to Sub-Antarctic, Temperate, Tropical Rainforest, Freshwater, and Marine Life.

Before heading back to our apartment, we will head on over to Cenang Beach to enjoy the sunset. The night time will be spent by resting or doing leisure activities at the apartment.

Day 2: Pulau Beras Basah, Langkawi SkyCab and more

In the morning, we will be going on an island hopping trip after breakfast at our hotel. This will include activities such as swimming at the Pulau Dayang Bunting, eagle feeding at Pulau Singa, and snorkelling at Pulau Beras Basah. The entire island hopping trip is expected to take around four hours and costs RM35 per adult.

In the afternoon, we plan to board the Langkawi SkyCab, which is a cable car ride attraction. It provides a 2.2 km aerial link starting from the Oriental Village at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang. The price for a combo ticket is RM40 and this includes access to other Langkawi attractions such as the 3D Art Gallery, SkyRex, and SkyDome.

The 3D Art Gallery is an exhibit of 3D art of various sizes while the SkyRex is an exciting 6D motion adventure dinosaur park. An additional RM5 is required to enter the SkyBridge located at the peak of Gunung Machinchang.

At night, we hope to go sightseeing and looking for bargain items at the Kedawang night market located near to Cenang Beach.
